Origin
You'll be happy to know that Craig's origin won't tell you a story about my old Kidz Trek days, and that it wont be as long as the others. The only thing that's KT related really is the following: there was a character called Craig Anderson who was the Borg/Tolg drone rescued in The Curse of Voyager. He wasn't like the Craig you know, in fact I don't even remember the guy so he couldn't of been that memorable

His story begins in the early days of Fifth Voyager, where it was still being planned. I had the original cast, Lena and the two kids of the show Kiara & Naomi, plus Nikki and Phoebe appearing much later. I never thought I'd get far enough to put those two in the cast, though I did pull forward the storyline from Season Eight to Two.. Fair Chance itself was the big series finale believe it or not.

I was at the time mostly working solo on this project. My best friend who is busy writing Dimension 5.2, and I came up with the idea to act out episodes we'd come up with. I don't know how and why we did, but never mind. I decided that I needed one male extra character, so I decided to try and develop him in this one play. The episode itself I don't remember sadly, but I do remember that Craig's debut was a meeting. I immediately thought of Brock from Pokémon, then got in my head a desperate guy looking to date anybody, he keeps a list of all the women and writes whatever details about them he gets whenever he attempts to chat them up. That's how he started, me and Emma loved him right away.

The transition into Fifth Voyager
After that success of a play the first chance I got, I started working on the sub site for Fifth Voyager, which was The Magazine. It was just going to be a part of my Voyager fanfiction site, which was going to have the other series I came up with on it. The first thing I did was work on the cast image, which was just one of the original Voyager shots with Lena already on it from earlier. As she was played by someone in Aqua, I decided to be lazy (yes you can decide lol) and use one of the guys from the band as Craig. Søren wasn't my first choice, I picked Claus.. he was him for a short while.. in the end I decided to use Søren, he had that cheeky smile and that mischievous look in his eyes that made him perfect for Craig. Plus he always looked great with Lene/Lena, I found out later in 2001 they married lol. Those earlier pics, pre marriage decided the Lena/Craig relationship as well, if it were Claus I probably wouldn't of thought about it until I wrote a couple of eps with the two sharing scenes. I thankfully decided against erasing Claus from the cast image, and started afresh I think. That's the only part of the site I don't have a record of sadly.

In the end I decided to write him into the first episode as a young crewmember who's mother was Marquis. The Lieutenant rank was added before I decided his age and what have you, so I've since added silly jokes in about it.

Change over the year(s)
Writing Craig didn't get off to a good start, he seemed quite forced in Aggressions and in one scene in Mental Illness. It took me a while to get used to writing him, but it was well worth the effort. It took a little while longer, but I did grow just as attached to his written self as I did in that first acted scene I did with him. His first encounter with Lena at the time was the turning point for him. He stopped being so desperate to date every girl he saw, and slowly just was desperate to date her.

He really is basically just a guy who never found the right girl for him, but was lonely enough to consider being with any girl. Once he found her he calmed down, and concentrated on trying to prove himself worthy to her. Luckily for him the girl he fell in love with wasn't like most of the girls who rejected him, she befriended him and accepted him. Lena did help in Craig's development, I hope it seems so to everyone else but to me his development over the years is so natural and typical. Yes I'm even talking about Season Five here.

Season One he was lonely and desperate, but eventually met the girl of his dreams. Season Two he seemed to accept that he'd only be friends with her, only for her to confuse him by kissing him a few times, they began dating.. kinda. She continued to by being close friends with unknown-to-her-then brother James, who he slowly began seeing as a threat to him. Ironically enough that was the same time James started a relationship elsewhere. Season Three he seemed to be developing on his own, he became a bit more protective of her, showing of the brave and strong side to him. He always seemed to struggle on his own, development wise.

In Season Four things did start to turn sour, he began going backwards. After his breakup with her, the move to Zare seemed to take him back to his early days of being lonely and needing just anybody. Then after that fizzled out, he went back to his chasing Lena days. That all ended up in heartbreak, and he ended up becoming bitter and angry. The calm, gentle Craig, with a noble/brave side to him, turned aggressive and selfish in a way; his opposite. What will the rest of Season Five bring for him, will he go back to his old self because of his loneliness, the Craig he was with Lena, or just remain the way he is. Who knows, but me? Keep reading to find out.

Overall his addition has been..
A success. However his Season Five personality isn't popular, but I'm not writing him that way so he would be.. I found it very depressing to even think of him acting normally with the love of his life gone. True it's depressing to see him this way, but at least it makes sense (hopefully not just to me). I always tried to make my two lead guys (Craig and James btw) accessible, in other words very real, human but effected by extreme incidents. I always felt Craig was more successful in that field, James' development had to be explained by that damn spell, but Craig's transition in One to Five, or the prequels to One seemed the most natural. James and Jessie's relationship started out pretty cute, and in places still is.. but as they developed into a serious relationship both times they didn't show it that much. Craig and Lena have constantly been cute, unless they've been breaking up of course.. My only problem with Craig is that it felt like I only added him for Lena to have a love interest, or it would feel that way for everyone else who reads it. Other than that, he's been a success so far, I just hope fans of his old self don't continue to be put off by him.. please keep reading :)
